The idea

A hundred mirrors, tuned like a hundred strings.

Resonance treats the crowd as an instrument rather than an audience. Every voice, footstep and ripple of laughter in the room is picked up, analysed, and pushed straight back out as moving light — a hundred motorised mirrors overhead rearrange themselves as visitors talk beneath them.

In the room

A ceiling of 120 mirror modules, each on its own three-axis servo mount, hangs above a mirrored floor plinth that doubles the effect below. A 24-microphone beamforming array maps where sound is coming from and steers clusters of mirrors toward that source, catching stray beams from a single rotating key light and scattering them across the crowd.

Technical director Priya Raman rebuilt the kinetic armature twice before the London stop — the original, designed for a proscenium theatre, could not survive nine months of daily disassembly on tour. The current rig breaks down into 14 flight cases and goes from truck to rigged ceiling in under five hours.
