PayDay rates from £215 to £255 for carpenters and joiners; studio salaries from £34,000 to £68,000. Bands are published in the advert and reviewed every April against the Real Living Wage and the London market. Overtime at time and a half, agreed in advance.◆
PAYE, not CISEveryone is employed. That means sick pay, statutory redundancy, parental leave and a payslip that does not change because the weather did. We have never engaged a carpenter through an umbrella company and we do not intend to start.◆
PensionAuto-enrolment from your first payslip into a qualifying scheme — we contribute 6%, above the 3% statutory minimum, and you can opt to salary-sacrifice.◆
Holiday28 days including the eight bank holidays, rising by one day per year of service to 33. The site shuts for a fortnight at Christmas and that fortnight comes out of the 28 for site crews — it is in the offer letter so there are no surprises in December.◆
Tools and PPEAll power tools, fixings, consumables and PPE provided, including hard hats, gloves, hi-vis and safety boots replaced on request rather than on a schedule. New carpenters get a £400 hand-tool allowance in month one. Bib and brace and a jacket with your name on it.◆
TravelAll sites within the M25 and the Home Counties. Travel inside the M25 is on us — an Oyster or contactless refund, or 45p a mile if you drive. Site managers get a van and a fuel card. Anything beyond an hour from Bermondsey comes with a travel allowance agreed before you accept the job.◆
Training and ticketsCSCS, SMSTS, SSSTS, IPAF, abrasive wheels, first aid and asbestos awareness are booked and paid for by us, in work time. We pay the CITB levy like every contractor over the threshold and we actually claim the grant back — it funds the apprenticeships rather than sitting in a spreadsheet.◆
HealthFace-fit testing and on-tool extraction as standard, annual health surveillance for anyone cutting or sanding, and a private GP line for you and anyone living with you. Construction has a mental health problem; we pay for six counselling sessions a year, no questions asked, not routed through a manager.◆
