Accessibility Statement
How accessible this site is, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
This is a portfolio demonstration site. The policies below are written to real UK conventions and are structurally complete, but they describe a fictional company and are not legal advice.
1. Our commitment
Ironwood Contracting Ltd wants ironwood.co.uk to be usable by as many people as possible. That means you should be able to navigate the whole site with a keyboard, use it with a screen reader, resize text to 200% without losing content, and read it comfortably at high contrast.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA, and we design to the Equality Act 2010’s duty to make reasonable adjustments.
2. How accessible this site is
We believe this site is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Specifically: every page has one clear h1 and a logical heading order; every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard with a visible focus ring; every meaningful image has alternative text and decorative images are hidden from assistive technology; colour is never the only way information is conveyed; text contrast meets 4.5:1 and large text 3:1; forms have real labels and errors are announced, not just coloured red; and all motion respects prefers-reduced-motion, so animation stops if your system asks it to.
The site is tested at 1440px, 900px, 390px and 320px, and works without JavaScript, with reduced text but no loss of information.
3. What we know is not perfect
Some long project pages have a deep heading structure that can be slow to skim with a screen reader; we are adding in-page landmarks.
Some photographs carry information in the image itself that is described in nearby text rather than in the alt attribute. Where that happens the description is always adjacent, never absent.
Third-party embeds, where used, are outside our direct control. Where an embed fails an accessibility check we provide the same information in an accessible form on the same page.
4. Getting an alternative format
If you need anything on this site in another format — large print, plain text, audio, or read aloud over the phone — email build@ironwood.co.uk or call 020 7946 0142 and we will send it. We aim to reply within five working days.
5. Telling us about a problem
If you find something that does not work, we want to know. Email build@ironwood.co.uk with the page address and what went wrong, and if you can, the browser and assistive technology you were using. We will acknowledge within five working days and tell you what we are going to do about it.
If you are not satisfied with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
6. How we tested
This statement was prepared on 14 May 2026. The site was assessed in-house against WCAG 2.2 AA using automated checks (axe-core), manual keyboard-only testing, and screen reader testing with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS and NVDA on Windows. Pages were checked at four viewport widths and at 200% text zoom.
