A series about restraint
Still is a set of seven vessels thrown from the same reclaimed stoneware clay, fired in the same kiln load, and differentiated only by small adjustments in wall thickness and the pressure of a single finger at the moment of closing the form. No. 4 is, by the maker's own account, the one where the restraint held longest.
Firing without glaze
Each vessel is fired to 1,280°C unglazed, so the surface you see is the clay body itself, altered only by flame path and the position it held in the kiln — not by any applied colour. Two pieces from the original firing cracked and were destroyed; this one did not.

On what a vessel is for
Still is not intended to hold anything. Its opening is deliberately too narrow for practical use — a small refusal aimed at the assumption that a thrown clay form must justify itself by function. We wanted to see what was left of a vessel once you removed the reason for it.
