Mass & Memory
A group exhibition on cast and forged sculpture staged inside a working nineteenth-century foundry hall.

Mass & Memory opened 3 March 2025 at Braun Foundry Hall in Basel, a group exhibition examining cast and forged sculpture staged, unusually, inside an operating nineteenth-century foundry. Monolith contributed three works, including Ballast, shown publicly for the first time alongside pieces from six other international studios.
Curator Rolf Anders Brenner selected the foundry setting deliberately, pairing finished sculpture with the machinery and moulds still used to produce it. "You cannot separate a cast object from the violence of its making," Brenner wrote in the exhibition text, "and this building refuses to let you try."
The exhibition closed 25 May 2025 after a twelve-week run, and arrangements for a reduced travelling version are under discussion for 2027.
